Post Joomla Articles from Twitter using RSS feed

E-mail Print

This post shows you how to post Joomla articles from Twitter tweet. If you want to post Twitter automatically from Joomla, please look at Joomla Twitter extension.

Twitter to Joomla articles

You are driving or discussing with your co-workers in a coffee bar, and you have something that really need to be announced immediately on your Joomla site, is it possible to do within a minute?

You must agree that your computer is not always front of you, or even that access to Joomla backend and post something is time-wasting sometime. But it's much more easier to post a Twitter tweet. A bunch of Twitter applications out there for your optioncan use Twittie on iPhone, Twidroid on Android, Gravity on Nokia S60, Twitterfic, TweetDeck, Chromed Bird, Twitterfox, blah blah blah...You see, you can do it anytime, anywhere, huh?

After researching around, here is my solution:

  • Get RSS feed link from your Twitter account.
  • Using RSS Content Grabber Joomla extension with above RSS feed.

Here we go...

Step 1: Get RSS feed link of your Twitter account

Get RSS Feed link from your Twitter account

In this article, I will use RSS feed link from our Twitter account @foobla_dot_com, take a look at the screenshot above, here it is:

http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/31196817.rss

You may have a question like this: If my Twitter account has been protected, how can I access that RSS feed?

Good question, just add your Twitter username & password right before twitter.com, now it is:

http://foobla_dot_com:
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
 /statuses/user_timeline/31196817.rss

Do not try above link, "mypassword" isn't correct password. Now, we are ready to go to the next step...

Step 2: Using RSS Content Grabber Joomla extension with above RSS feed

You know, there are a lot of Joomla RSS Content Grabber extensions out there on Joomla Extensions Directory which offer Joomla site ability to post Joomla articles automatically from RSS feeds. In this article, I use FullTextRss by foobla as Joomla RSS Grabber extension for its powerful & easy-to-use, it's commercial one, if you use another one, the progress should be similar like below:

Install Joomla RSS Content Grabber > Configure the Cronjob for scheduling update > Set "Joomla RSS Content Grabber" up for Twitter feed

Install Joomla RSS Content Grabber > Configure the Cronjob for scheduling update > Set "Joomla RSS Content Grabber" up for Twitter feed

Install Joomla Automatic Articles by foobla (obFTRSS) successful screen

Install it as another regular Joomla extension

Install Joomla RSS Content Grabber > Configure the Cronjob for scheduling update > Set "Joomla RSS Content Grabber" up for Twitter feed

After installed the Joomla RSS Grabber component successful, you will see above screen. Click the green button / link to decide schedule of automatic updating.

Configure Cronjob / Schedule

Install Joomla RSS Content Grabber > Configure the Cronjob for scheduling update > Set "Joomla RSS Content Grabber" up for Twitter feed

Setup News Feed

Click [Preview] button to preview the result, click [Save] button to save the news feed.

NOW, you are done. You can go out and post Joomla article anytime, anywhere by your mobile phone.

Summary

You may have some more questions like: How can I post Twitter tweet to K2 content or FLEXIcontent? Can I post Digg RSS feed or Facebook RSS feed?

Fortunately, you can absolutely post K2, FLEXIcontent, regular Joomla Article from Twitter RSS feed, Digg RSS feed, Facebook Note RSS feed or whatever RSS feed.

Michael Krevat from Florida/US asked me: Can I grab Ebay RSS feed to my Joomla VirtueMart shopping cart?

Thanks Michael for that awesome idea, but there is no available solution for now in the Joomla community. I sure will think about writing VirtueMart plugin for obFTRSS, may be even EventList, Jobline, SOBI2, ...

Wow, a lot of things. Your comments are welcome, look forward to it.
